tomatoes, potatoes and other things

First of all, what a great week we had last week!  The first round of weekly box sales exceeded our expectations and based on the feedback we've received, our customers were very pleased.  We participated in 4 farmers' markets last week as well.

Tomatoes.  If you don't know anything about the dreaded "grocery store tomato," read this: http://politicsoftheplate.com/?p=906.  It's just an exerpt from a book, but you'll get the idea.  Farmers' market shoppers, educate yourselves.  The items you find at the markets won't look, smell or taste like what you buy at the supermarket - Thank God!

Potatoes.  Boy have we got potatoes!  The fingerlings are selling very well and tasting even better.  We haven't been able to cook any of our yukon gold yet because we are selling them so fast.  Maybe tonight.  We still have Red Norland and Red Gold new potatoes coming out of the earth too.  The farmer is hopeful that we'll have sweet potatoes in a week or so :)

This week we are harvesting tomatoes, potatoes, jalepenos, bell peppers, banana peppers, okra, cabbage, kale, watermelon, onions, cucumbers and crowder peas.  We hope to have shelled peas available at this weekend's markets.

If you are interested in a weekly box, email us at harvestmoonfarms@gmail.com before 2pm on Tuesday to be added to The List.
